iguel Cotto is in no doubt that the will still be the WBA welterweight champion when he leaves the Madison Square Garden ring after Saturday night’s bout with ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley. The undefeated Puerto Rican has youth and power on his side but there are those that believe that superior speed and silky boxing skills of Mosley will win out.

However, Cotto, 30-0 (25KOS), is adamant that his belt will not be changing hands this weekend.

“I have prepared hard for the last two and a half months to defend my title. And when I leave Madison Square Garden after Saturday night, I’m going back to Puerto Rico with my title,” he declared.

“The people at Madison Square Garden always make me feel at home. I’m excited to put on a great show for them and all of my fans.

“On paper this is the toughest challenge of my career, but we are going to have to wait until Saturday to see if it really will be.” he told Saytantahsports.com.

Mosley, of course, is certain it will be. Indeed, while many are expecting him to dance, the 36-year-old American is vowing to take his young rival into the trenches with him.

”There are just three more days before the war starts, before battle, and I’m ready to go,” revealed Mosley, 44-4 (37KOs).

”Cotto is a young, strong, hungry champion. On Saturday, we are going to do some business in the ring and we will see who the champion really is.

”I will have Diego Corrales’ name on my shorts, and we will be in the legendary Madison Square Garden.

“I wish we could fight right now, I’m ready. It’s going to be electrifying, there are going to be fireworks everywhere.”
